TracksideBot

TracksideBot is the crawler behind Trackside Careers, an independent Formula 1 job board. It reads the public careers pages and job feeds of F1 teams so that people can find open roles in one place and apply on the employer's own site. This page explains what it fetches, how often, the rules it follows and how to opt out.

Who we are

Trackside Careers is an independent job board for people who want to work in Formula 1. Trackside Careers is not affiliated with Formula 1, the FIA or any team.

Questions or problems with the crawler: contact at tracksidecareers dot com. A person reads every message.

What it fetches

Only the public careers pages and job feeds of the F1 teams, their power-unit sites and Formula 1 itself, plus one public register. We read the official careers sites of these organizations:

F1 teams

  • Alpine
  • Aston Martin
  • Audi
  • Cadillac
  • Ferrari
  • Haas
  • Mercedes
  • Racing Bulls
  • Red Bull Racing
  • Williams

Power-unit sites

  • Audi Formula Racing (Neuburg)
  • GM Performance Power Units
  • Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains
  • Red Bull Ford Powertrains

Formula 1

  • Formula 1 (Formula One Management)

And the Home Office register of licensed visa sponsors on GOV.UK.

If you run one of these sites and want the exact hostnames we read, email us at contact at tracksidecareers dot com.

It never fetches login pages, application forms or other job boards. We update this list before we add an organization.

How often

  • Job lists and feeds: about once an hour per source, and more slowly where a host asks.
  • Job detail pages: only for postings that are new or have changed.
  • A full re-check once a week, to confirm that every job we list is still open.
  • The Home Office register of licensed sponsors: once a day, its GOV.UK publication page (a conditional request). The register file is downloaded only when GOV.UK links a new file, or when our list of employer names to match changes.

Rules it follows

  • It obeys robots.txt as described in RFC 9309, including Crawl-delay. It checks robots.txt before every run and caches it for no more than 24 hours. If robots.txt returns a server error, it treats the whole site as disallowed.
  • It makes one request at a time per host, with 1 to 2 seconds between requests.
  • It sends conditional requests (If-None-Match, If-Modified-Since), so unchanged pages cost you a 304.
  • It honours Retry-After.
  • A block, or repeated 429 responses, stops that source and alerts a person. We don't retry around a block; we get in touch instead.
  • No proxies, no CAPTCHA solving and no pretending to be a browser.

How to recognise it

Every request carries the User-Agent TracksideBot/1.0 (+https://tracksidecareers.com/bot) and the header From: contact at tracksidecareers dot com. In robots.txt, the product token is TracksideBot.

Requests come from Cloudflare Workers, which have no fixed IP addresses, so we can't publish an IP list. Identification relies on the User-Agent and the From header.

What we do with it

  • We show the facts of each job (title, team, location, dates) and a short excerpt. The Apply button always goes to the employer's own site.
  • We show the full job description only with the employer's permission.
  • We remove personal data, such as recruiters' names, email addresses and phone numbers.
  • We keep raw copies of fetched pages for 30 days, then delete them.
  • From the Home Office register we keep only the entries of the employers we list, to show a dated “Licensed UK visa sponsor” badge, credited under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
  • We use AI to classify jobs (for example by discipline and seniority) and to write a short summary, always labelled as AI-written, only where the site has no machine-readable AI opt-out, such as Content-Signal: ai-input=no or a TDMRep reservation. We never use job content to train AI models.

How to opt out

To stop TracksideBot crawling your site, add this to your robots.txt:

User-agent: TracksideBot
Disallow: /

You can also disallow only some paths. TracksideBot reads robots.txt before every run, so a change takes effect within 24 hours.

Or email contact at tracksidecareers dot com to have your jobs removed or corrected. We act within one working day, and a removed source stays removed.
